Terms
The short version: read freely, link generously, ask before copying.
These terms cover your use of indietooling.com and The Patch Notes newsletter, both run by Indie Tooling. By using the site, you agree to them. If you have a question about anything here, email us at hello@indietooling.com.
Using the site
Reading Indie Tooling is free and doesn’t need an account. Please don’t use the site in a way that disrupts it for anyone else, such as overloading it with automated requests.
General information, not advice
Our stories are general information about game engines, tools, assets and the business of shipping games. They aren’t legal, financial or professional advice for your situation. Before you make a decision that matters, like changing engines, signing a licence or relying on a legal point, check the details for yourself or ask a qualified adviser.
Accuracy and corrections
We check facts before we publish, but tools change quickly and we sometimes get things wrong. If you spot a mistake, email hello@indietooling.com. We fix errors in the story itself and say what changed. Our About page sets out our editorial standards.
Our content
The stories, illustrations, covers and diagrams on Indie Tooling belong to us, unless they’re credited to someone else. You’re welcome to quote a short excerpt with a link back to the original story. Please ask before republishing a whole story or a large part of one, using our illustrations elsewhere, or collecting our content to train AI models.
Other people’s material
Some images and screenshots belong to other people and are used under their own licences or with permission. We credit them where they appear, and their licences apply to them, not these terms. Product names and logos, such as Unity, Godot, Steam or Blender, belong to their owners. Mentioning them doesn’t mean those companies endorse us or we endorse them.
Links to other sites
Stories link to other websites so you can check our sources and read more. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or how they handle your data. Links to other sites carry a tag that tells them the visit came from Indie Tooling. It doesn’t identify you.
Disclosures
If a story mentions a product or studio made by the people behind Indie Tooling, the story says so. If we ever publish sponsored content or use affiliate links, we’ll label them clearly where they appear.
The Patch Notes
Our newsletter is free and weekly. You only start getting it after you confirm your email address, and every issue has an unsubscribe link. Our privacy policy explains how we handle your email address.
Liability
We provide the site and newsletter as they are. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for any loss or damage that comes from using them or relying on their content. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that can’t be excluded.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and the courts of Victoria have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using the site after a change, the updated terms apply.
